I told you, shitty cell phone pictures. I still haven’t heard from the guy who approached us afterwards to show us the photos he had captured of Zoe and Kayla. Oh well.

Kayla (left) is wearing a dress I re-designed by myself. Purchased at a thrift store the garment was very retro 80’s. The top was white, the bottom I did nothing to except pin up the hem in various places to show the tulle, make it edgier, and poofier. The top is completely news-papered in order to represent the media. Every article on the dress is about the bank crisis, the presidential campaign, the war, or stories on people and how they are affected by one or all of those things. I managed to fasten the collar so it was high in the back to make it seem not only futuristic but “couture” as well.

And Zoe’s dress (right) was bought at Target on the 75% off clearance rack. It was only $6.98! I know, right! I used velcro and old gadgets we have around the house for her to represent “technology” Both dresses also symbolize (and kind of poke fun at) the “Go Green” movement, both dresses are made from recycled materials. Or have them attached in some way. Zoe’s dress also can be interpreted that in the future we will be so beyond any technology we have now, they will only be used as fashion accessories.

As for the hair and makeup, you can’t see them at all in the photo’s I have. The girl’s make-up was done in an avant-guard fashion with colors that complemented their tights. And Kayla’s hair has brightly colored extension pieces on her longer side, and a finger wave in the front on the shorter side. Zoe’s hair, I just brushed out and sprayed with color spray. I also wrapped a USB cord around her head like a headband.

I knew this would happen, but having a category like “The Future” it can be interpreted in so many fabulous ways. Or, for people with zero-to little imagination, they can just throw their models in some crazy ugly clothes and do metallic makeup on them and attack them with glitter. Guess which one was the plan for the majority of the girls from my school?

Too bad it wasn’t a contest, I didn’t get anything for all my hard work. Except I’m proud of myself, and that’s all that counts.

one of those days…

I was scrambling to get everything together for the hair show.

It went AMAZING… If I had brought my camera I’d have pictures. But I don’t bring it anywhere because I have no way to upload photos, my USB cord got lost somewhere when I was moving from my own place back into my parent’s house.

There was a group of 2 or 3 guys who all came up to me after the show to let me see the pictures of Zoe and Kayla they captured. I gave them my email address so hopefully I receive them soon!

It was an awesome experience. I just wish the people who said they were going to come, actually did to share this BIG day for me. Maybe they just didn’t realize how important it was to me that they expressed interest in coming.

I’m going to bed, I have some shitty cell phone pictures to post tomorrow so stay tuned.

Sunday is the day of the Hair show. and I am uber stressing, trying to get everything together.

Luckily, I have an amazing model willing to help with what she can via buying shoes, tights, ect.

And I found the perfect costume for Zoe to wear at TARGET…of all places! It’s really expensive, so I have to alter my idea of velcro-ing all things technology onto it, but I’ll work something out.

I only wish I didn’t have to work a 7 hour shift today at the bux, then I’d be able to put everything together.

There’s always tomorrow.

Does anyone know where to buy the materials…or how to paper-mâché?

I attend Dior Cosmetology school.

Before that, I attended Elite Academy. And, so far, it’s been over THREE YEARS since my very first day as a newbie with dreams and aspirations to be the best colorist to the stars and owning a chain of exclusive salons.

Hmm, things sure do change when reality smacks you in the face. I don’t doubt my ability to one day maybe owning my own salon and be a platform artist at hair shows or classes all over the country. But now, I just want to set easier goals to achieve, something that will give me flexibility as Hazel grows up.

I only have 2 weeks left before my assumed graduation date. But right now, we’re working on putting on our 2nd annual hair show. AHHH the craziness of it all!!!

I found my two models the next day after I found out about it and decided in which direction I wanted to go. A new friend of mine, Kayla, who’s super thin, tall, and gorgeous. And my sister Zoe, because her hair is absolutely PERFECT for the part. Those natural curls, man, I just love to play around with them.

All three of the Dior schools are participating and the entire show theme is something like “Hair Through The Years”…I think. Don’t quote me on that one. But the years my school was chosen to do was “90’s, Today, and the Future.” Well screw the 90’s…hair was so freaking ugly then. It went through a rough patch, with the exception of the “Rachel” look. And today is too easy. Seriously, I could just have my models walk down the runway wearing their every day clothes and not do a thing to their hair. But the future, is open to so many possibilities. And with all my budding creativity, how better express myself? I do have the help of two fellow students, and if there’s a contest, our direction we’re taking it in is so elaborate and intricate, I’m just dying for someone to ask me to describe our look and how we came up with it! I can’t go in to much detail until it’s over (and I have pictures of course) but it’s pretty much a government/media/technology theme, how it will effect our look in the future. thin Aeon Flux meets V for Vendetta….I KNOW RIGHT!?

It’s still in the works, seeing how the show isn’t until October 5th, but if you have any suggestions for hair makeup or style, feel free to share!
